The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Brock Stewart from Double-A Tulsa on Wednesday. He’s slated to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the three-game series finale. Stewart will be the fourth consecutive rookie to start a game for the Dodgers.

After being optioned on Aug. 29, his return within 10 days without replacing an injured player is permissible due to the fact that the Drillers’ regular season concluded Monday. Pedro Baez was in the same position, and was recalled by the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Unlike Baez, Stewart did take the mound for the Drillers during his brief stint in the Minors. He allowed two runs on four hits and had three strikeouts over three innings.

The 24-year-old spent time with each Minor League affiliate this season, going a combined 9-4 with a 1.79 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 129 strikeouts in 121 innings over 21 starts.

Stewart is 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA, 6.45 FIP, 1.84 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in four games (three starts) for the Dodgers. He made his Major League debut against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on June 29.

Stewart allowed one home run in that start, then surrendered four homers to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in his next turn. However, the right-hander hasn’t allowed a home run in either of his past two games.

What’s more, Stewart impressed against the Chicago Cubs when he last pitched for the Dodgers. He turned in five shutout innings and set a career high with eight strikeouts.

Stewart was named the Dodgers’ Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year and to Baseball America’s Minor League All-Star Team.

Los Angeles now has 34 players on their active roster.
