Dodgers News: Brandon McCarthy To Start Sunday Against Marlins

In some part due to injuries but also because of their depth, the Los Angeles Dodgers have often shuffled around their starting rotation this season. Use of the 10-day disabled list has almost become a daily occurrence, though at times it’s aided the juggling act.

Rich Hill, Kenta Maeda, Brandon McCarthy and Hyun-Jin Ryu are among the starters who have spent time on the disabled list. The most recent of which is Maeda, who went down due to left hamstring tightness.

While the right-hander is eligible to be reinstated on Sunday, the Dodgers will instead start Brandon McCarthy in the four-game series finale against the Miami Marlins, per Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times:

Julio Urias will start Saturday. Brandon McCarthy will start Sunday. Clayton Kershaw will start Tuesday.

Prior to McCarthy taking the ball in the series with Marlins series, which begins Thursday, the Dodgers will start Ryu, Alex Wood and Julio Urias. With Clayton Kershaw penciled to start Tuesday, it keeps the left-handed ace on his regular turn.

But as a result, it pushes Hill back before making his next turn. The southpaw returned from the DL on Tuesday night, throwing five innings against the San Francisco Giants. His blister was deemed a non-issue.

Shuffling within the starting rotation has generally worked out up to this point, but eventually the Dodgers may need to settle on five starters. Their current outlook does not include Scott Kazmir, who remains at Camelback Ranch.
