Along with Scott Kazmir and Kenta Maeda, the Los Angeles Dodgers recently announced the signing of 29-year-old Brandon Beachy to a one-year, $1.5 million contract that includes incentives.

When the Dodgers signed Beachy to a one-year deal prior to last season, the right-hander was coming off his second Tommy John surgery.

As a result he missed the entire 2014 season with the Atlanta Braves and didn’t make his return to a Major-League mound until June 2015.

Beachy’s previous contract with the Dodgers included a team option for 2016, but he elected for free agency in October.

As for his current deal, it’s non-guaranteed with the incentives primarily tied to number of starts and innings pitched, via the Associated Press:

The deal announced Wednesday is not guaranteed, and Beachy would receive a $250,000 bonus if he is on the opening-day roster. He could earn $750,000 in performance bonuses based on games: $100,000 each for 30, 40 and 45, and $150,000 apiece for 50, 55 and 60. He also could make $2.75 million based on starts: $250,000, $500,000 each for 15 and 20, and $750,000 apiece for 25 and 30 starts.

In his two starts with the Dodgers last season, Beachy allowed seven runs on 10 hits, with six walks and five strikeouts in eight innings.

He was 1-1 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 10 games (nine starts) with Oklahoma City. For his career, Beachy is 14-12 with a 3.36 ERA, 3.41 FIP and 1.16 WHIP in 48 Major-League starts.

The Dodgers’ recent additions have given them six Major-League caliber starters, without including Beachy in that group. It’s possible he won’t be with the organization come Opening Day, but just as easily could again serve as depth with the OKC Dodgers.
