The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City to make a spot start against the Washington Nationals last week as injuries have hit their rotation early.
Wrobleski was filling in for Blake Snell, who landed on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder inflammation.
Wrobleski struggled mightily in his 2025 debut as he allowed eight hits and eight runs across five innings of work. He gave up two home runs and recorded four strikeouts against three walks.
While it was a disappointing performance for the Dodgers prospect, he received advice from Blake Treinen, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:
After the game, it was Blake Treinen’s turn to play the part of the veteran offering his wisdom.
“It’s the big leagues. It’s not going to be easy,” Treinen said of the purpose of his post-game visit with Wrobleski. “You can’t beat yourself up. You lose the battle in here, you’re going to lose the battle out there.”
Treinen felt it was important to offer encouraging words to Wrobleski rather than leave him be:
Treinen said the tendency after a teammate has a bad game is often to leave them alone to “process” it. For a young player like Wrobleski, though, that can lead to him feeling isolated at a low point for him.
“It’s hard in this world where everybody has an opinion at the click of a button,” Treinen said. “I don’t know how he processes stuff. But he’s going to be fine. He has good stuff.”
It’s easy for younger pitchers to beat themselves up after a disappointing outing and Treinen, an 11-year veteran, wanted to make sure that didn’t happen to Wrobleski.
The 24-year-old was optioned back to Oklahoma City ahead of the Dodgers’ series finale as the corresponding move to Landon Knack being called up.
At present, the Dodgers still need a starter for Wednesday. Because he was just optioned, Wrobleski was not eligible to return in time for that game unless he replaced an injured player. It appears the Dodgers will turn to Bobby Miller for the series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
The Dodgers of course can’t predict an injury, and Wrobleski was ruled out anyhow when he started for Oklahoma City on Sunday. He pitched four innings and allowed just two runs despite walking six.
