The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in the rubber match on Sunday to clinch the top seed in the National League and make MLB history.

The win was their 106th of the season, which tied Dodgers franchise record for most in a single season. “It just speaks to the level of consistency and excellence,” manager Dave Roberts said.

“We’ve put ourselves in a really good spot. Part of getting to where we want to get to, is you’ve got to dominate and play well throughout the regular season. We’ve been as consistent as everyone. The goal is to keep winning baseball games.”

The Dodgers previously had 106 wins in the 2019 and 2021 seasons, making this the third straight full season the team has reached that mark. The 2020 season was shortened to 60 games due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, however, it was the only time in franchise history the team posted a winning percentage of .700 or higher.

With three consecutive full seasons of 106 wins, the Dodgers are the first team in MLB history to accomplish that feat. “It’s amazing,” Roberts said.

“I didn’t realize that. You’re looking at almost 200 years of baseball, speaks to the consistency, excellence and standard that we’ve set here at the Dodgers. It takes a lot of people to accomplish what we’ve done over parts of the last four years. There’s a lot of people that deserve the credit.”

Prior to the current run of three 106-win seasons, the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers held the franchise wins record with 105. Overall, 10 Dodgers teams have reached 100 wins in a single season, including the 2017, 1974 and 1962 L.A. Dodgers, 1942 and 1941 Brooklyn Dodgers, and 1899 Brooklyn Superbas.

Dodgers postseason schedule

The current 2022 MLB postseason outlook has the Dodgers set to face the winner of the Wild Card Series between the San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves. However, the Braves remain alive in the NL East race, which could push the New York Mets into the Wild Card round.

Either way, the Dodgers host Game 1 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, October 11. Game 2 is scheduled for Oct. 12, and if necessary, a Game 5 would be back at Chavez Ravine on Sunday, Oct. 16.

If the Dodgers advance to the NLCS, Game 1 at Dodger Stadium is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 18.
