The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Kenley Jansen on the 10-day disabled list and recalled Pat Venditte from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Jansen suffered from an irregular heartbeat and was taken to the hospital, leaving him unavailable for the series opener against the Colorado Rockies.

Following his club’s win, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he wasn’t certain of Jansen’s availability moving forward, other than the All-Star closer wouldn’t be with the team for the remaining three games of the series.

Jansen returned to Los Angeles to meet with his cardiologist prior to the roster move being made. While the club has not confirmed as much, a report indicated Jansen would miss around one month’s time.

Jansen has a history of experiencing heart trouble at Coors Field. He pushed through it in 2011 but was taken to a hospital after the game, where Jansen learned he had atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat).

He was administered blood-thinning medication and spent one month on the disabled list. Jansen suffered from an irregular heartbeat during a 2012 road game against the Rockies, and in June 2015 had high blood pressure, felt fatigued and battled headaches.

Though in that instance Jansen was cleared to pitch and the symptoms were attributed to the high altitude, not Jansen’s prior heart trouble. He underwent surgery in October 2012 to address the matter.

Venditte returns one day after he was optioned to Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to activating Ross Stripling off the DL. Venditte has a 1.68 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 59 strikeouts and 14 walks in 48.1 innings over 42 games with Oklahoma City.

However, he has struggled in limited time with the Dodgers, pitching to a 8.31 ERA, 5.69 FIP and 2.08 WHIP with four strikeouts and one walk in 4.1 innings across five appearances. This marks Venditte’s seventh time joining the Dodgers.
