Dodgers Injury Updates: Dustin May, Blake Treinen Pitching In Simulated Game

With health the utmost importance for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their final game of the 2022 regular season, Dustin May and Blake Treinen both will look to continue making progress toward being included on the postseason roster.

The right-handers are scheduled to face batters in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium, with May going two innings. Treinen will throw a fewer number of pitches. It’s a first time either has faced batters during their respective rehabs.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts previously said May likely would be stretched out to three or four innings by the start of the National League Division Series on Tuesday, October 11.

May has been on the 15-day injured list since Sept. 24 because of lower back tightness. There was initial concern May would not be healthy by the start of the NLDS, but he quickly resumed throwing and now is a candidate to be with the Dodgers when they open the postseason.

However, Roberts stopped short of guaranteeing that would be the case for May.

“We’ll see,” answered Roberts when asked if May had a spot on the NLDS roster. “We’ll just get through this next thing and keep having conversations.”

Roberts did acknowledge the Dodgers could continue to have May and Tony Gonsolin build up during the playoffs.

As for Treinen, he was slow to recover from right shoulder tightness and was shut down for a brief stretch. Treinen resumed playing catch last week at Petco Park and continued with a throwing program through Monday.

Roberts said Treinen is “still a possibility” to be on the Dodgers roster for the NLDS.

Treinen has only appeared in five games this season because of separate right shoulder injuries. The first was a partial tear in his right capsule that nearly required season-ending surgery.

Will Blake Treinen and Dustin May be on Dodgers postseason roster?

Should May and Treinen continue to get through various checkpoints without suffering any setbacks, it would seem likely they join the Dodgers for the NLDS.
