Dodgers Injury Updates: Daniel Hudson To Be Activated And Josh Fields Continuing Rehab Assignment, But Tony Cingrani Not Near Return

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost another member of their bullpen, this time one who had temporarily joined as Ross Stripling was placed on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to Aug. 12) due to lower back inflammation.

It was one of the corresponding moves to the Dodgers activating Hyun-Jin Ryu off the 60-day DL. In order to create room on the 40-man roster for his return, the Dodgers transferred Tony Cingrani to the 60-day disabled list.

He’s been sidelined since June 7 because of a left shoulder strain, and therefore is already eligible to be reinstated. “It’s just kind of been slow sledding with the rehab and discomfort in the shoulder,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

“With the bullpens, as we’re kind of taking progressions, he just hasn’t been able to pass certain markers. Timeline for Tony, it’s some time in September. That’s our hope.”

Cingrani proved to be an effective option for Roberts after he was acquired by the Dodgers at last season’s non-waiver trade deadline. However he’s been limited to just 28 appearances this season because of shoulder trouble that’s required two separate stints on the disabled list.

Meanwhile, Daniel Hudson is expected to be activated for Friday’s series opener against the Seattle Mariners. He pitched in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday.”He looked good,” Roberts said.

Hudson was placed on the 10-day disabled list Aug. 7 due to right forearm tightness. He’s 3-2 with a 3.92 ERA, 4.19 FIP and 1.24 WHIP in 38 games.

Not far behind Hudson might be fellow right-hander Josh Fields, who recently began a rehab assignment with the Arizona League Dodgers. “Josh threw an inning in Arizona was very efficient,” Roberts said.

“[Days before] that, threw another inning, not quite as efficient. He’s going to make his way to an affiliate, I think it’s OKC, and he’ll pitch in the next two or three days. After that, we’ll kind of see from there.”
