Dodgers Injury Updates: Brock Stewart, Roki Sasaki, Kirby Yates, Michael Kopech & Tanner Scott

While the Los Angeles Dodgers have welcomed back the likes of Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell and Max Muncy over recent weeks, they continue to be hampered by the injury.

In August alone, the Dodgers have put Kirby Yates, Tommy Edman and Brock Stewart on the injured list. Edman’s injury further put a strain on the Dodgers’ position player depth as they already were without Kiké Hernández and Hyeseong Kim.

Meanwhile, losing Stewart is significant as he was the Dodgers’ biggest addition at the trade deadline. They additionally are now facing the prospect of Muncy having another injury as he was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday because of right side soreness.

Elsewhere, there are encouraging developments with Yates, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott and Michael Kopech, and in some sense for Stewart as well.

Dodgers updates

Kirby Yates

Yates threw 19 pitches in a simulated game that saw him face Justin Dean and Dalton Rushing, who took two at-bats each. Yates collected three strikeouts in his first time facing batters since going on the IL because of lower back pain.

“It was good, he felt good about it, so as we sit here on Wednesday, there might be an opportunity to send him on a rehab assignment in a few days,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Tanner Scott

Scott is scheduled to face hitters for his first time this weekend. The Dodgers have been encouraged by Scott’s recovery since he began a throwing program in late July.

Roki Sasaki

Sasaki has made steady progress since overcoming his stagnant recovery and is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. The plan is for Sasaki to pitch three innings.

Michael Kopech

Kopech faced batters at Angel Stadium on Monday and now is beginning a rehab assignment with Oklahoma City as well. Kopech will enter the game after Sasaki and pitch one inning.

Brock Stewart

Stewart was put on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation and underwent an MRI that effectively confirmed the Dodgers’ initial optimism.

“Pretty benign wear and tear. It’s going to be a few weeks before he returns,” Roberts said. “I think he got an injection to calm it down and I think it’s a week of no throwing, or something like that.”

Roberts added the MRI did not reveal any structural damage in Stewart’s right shoulder and said all told it’s a “best-case scenario.”

Brusdar Graterol

When Graterol underwent right shoulder surgery during the offseason, the Dodgers announced the expectation was he would return at some point after the All-Star break. The more realistic timeline figured to be late August or into September, but now Graterol appears likely to miss the entire 2025.

“I don’t think he’s throwing a baseball right now,” Roberts said.

He also mentioned there being a “small, small chance” of Graterol pitching for the team this year.
