Dodgers Injury Updates: Blake Snell, Tony Gonsolin, & Evan Phillips

The Los Angeles Dodgers are without a number of players from their pitching staff due to injury, including Blake Snell, Tony Gonsolin, Clayton Kershaw and Evan Phillips, among others.

Phillips has yet to make an appearance for the Dodgers this season, as he has been dealing with a right rotator cuff strain that kept him off the Dodgers World Series roster in 2024.

Gonsolin, on the other hand, made two appearances during Spring Training and was in the mix to open 2025 in the Dodgers’ rotation, but he was placed on the 15-day injured list with back tightness when the season began.

Snell made two starts for the Dodgers before he was placed on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation on April 3.

Blake Snell

A MRI on Snell’s left shoulder showed no structural damage, which was the best outcome the Dodgers could have hoped for.

Snell felt good coming off of his latest flat ground session, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts could not give an estimate of how close the left-hander is to returning or beginning a potential a rehab assignment.

“Played catch again today. I don’t know how close he is to going on a rehab assignment,” Roberts said on Wednesday. “I saw him throw some changeups, some curveballs. Throwing flat ground, stretching it out, says he feels really good. I don’t know when that’s going to be.”

Snell has been limited to just playing catch this week as he was only resumed throwing on Monday. Because of that, the Dodgers have yet to determine if he will go on a rehab assignment or simply face hitters during live batting practice.

“Yeah, that’s a good question. He hasn’t been off a mound yet, so I don’t know. I can’t even answer that question yet,” Roberts said.

Snell is eligible to be activated as early as April 18, and the Dodgers have been hoping his absence would not be too prolonged. In the meantime, it appears he will be traveling with the team as they hit the road with a game against the Texas Rangers on Friday.

“Blake, I think yeah, he’s going to go with the team,” Roberts said.

Tony Gonsolin

Gonsolin continued his rehab assignment on Tuesday with another outing for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He went four innings while allowing three runs on six hits, walking one and striking out five. Roberts said Gonsolin threw the ball well and that he’ll be making another start next week.

Roberts added the Dodgers will have a better idea of what Gonsolin’s next steps are after his next start.

“We’ll get him through five innings, and then we’ll see where we go,” Roberts said.

Evan Phillips

Phillips continued his rehab assignment this week as well and now has six appearances under his belt. He completed an important benchmark by pitching on consecutive days for the first time during this rehab assignment.

Phillips is scheduled to have another appearance for Oklahoma City this weekend.
