With Alex Wood only managing to pitch four-plus innings, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts went to his bullpen early by calling on J.T. Chargois to prevent the St. Louis Cardinals from adding to their 2-0 lead.

Chargois quickly got ahead on Marcell Ozuna but then threw four straight balls and walked him to load the bases. Roberts and Dodgers trainer Nate Lucero then paid a visit to the mound and after a brief conversation with Chargois, removed him from the game.

The club later announced the right-hander came out due to neck discomfort. However, following the loss, Roberts provided more details and said Chargois would undergo an MRI, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

“It’s a neck-arm combo and we’re going to get an MRI tomorrow,” said Roberts. “There was some neck and going down to his arm. He said there might have been some tingling, so we had to get him out.”

Roberts acknowledged it was likely that Chargois would be placed on the 10-day disabled list. If that is indeed the case, he’d become seventh relief pitcher to currently be sidelined.

John Axford, Tony Cingrani, Josh Fields, Yimi Garcia, Tom Koehler and Zac Rosscup make up the group of relievers currently on the DL. Rosscup landed there Monday due to a calf strain and in what was a corresponding move to activating Kenley Jansen.

Ross Stripling and Dennis Santana, starters who have pitched in relief, are also on the disabled list. Stripling hopes to return Friday.
