Dodgers Injury Update: Chris Taylor Beginning Rehab Assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Chris Taylor since July 6 due to small fracture in his left foot that was discovered after lingering pain required a CT scan, but a return now is on the horizon.

Taylor initially was diagnosed with a foot contusion and missed just one game before returning to Dodgers lineup for their matchup against the Colorado Rockies on the Fourth of July. However, he was removed in the sixth inning due to persistent pain.

“It was something that was feeling better before the game and I thought it wasn’t going to be an issue,” Taylor said after the game. “I thought I would be able to play through it, and it progressively every inning it got worse and worse and got to a point where it wasn’t worth continuing to try to push it.”

Nearly one month later, Taylor is now beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, according to Jack Harris of the L.A. Times

Chris Taylor (foot fracture) is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with Oklahoma City this week that will last at least seven days.

Taylor is starting in left field and slotted into the leadoff spot of the OKC Dodgers lineup for Tuesday’s game.

Taylor didn’t resume baseball activities until the middle of July, and it was only last week he began running. That was considered the final hurdle to clear before joining a Minor League affiliate for the start of a rehab assignment.

Taylor logged at-bats against Blake Treinen in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium over the weekend. In reporting to Oklahoma City, he’ll reunite with Dustin May and Edwin Ríos, both of whom are also working their way back from injury.

Ríos was put on the 10-day injured list June 3 due to a right hamstring strain that Dodgers manager Dave Roberts described as a “Grade 3 or Grade 4 tear.”

May has been out since last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Chris Taylor possibly playing second base

Coming off right elbow surgery, the Dodgers committed to a plan of having Taylor only play the outfield. But now further removed from the operation, Roberts said the club is planning for Taylor to potentially spend some time at second base moving forward.
