Sunday afternoon was a good one for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they earned a convincing 12-1 victory to win a series over the Seattle Mariners, slugging 17 hits.

The Dodgers did suffer a scare in the ninth inning though when Mariners position player Andrew Romine was pitching for the Mariners and he plunked Manny Machado on the left wrist.

Machado was in obvious pain after being hit by the 86 MPH fastball, but after being looked at by the trainers he wound up jogging to first and staying in the game for the time being. When the Dodgers took the field in the bottom of the ninth inning though, Machado was replaced in the infield by Justin Turner.

After the game, Machado got an X-ray on that left wrist, although luckily they came back negative and he said he is OK, via Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Machado x-rays are negative. “I’m good, guys,” he said.

The Dodgers are set to begin a three-game series at Dodger Stadium against the hottest team in the National League right now, the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. So they can ill-afford to lose their starting shortstop right now.

Machado went 1-for-5, scoring two runs in Sunday’s win over the Mariners. He hit two home runs in the series opener on Friday, so he is beginning to heat up at the plate.
