The Los Angeles Dodgers have withstood a rash of injuries throughout the 2018 season, with the starting rotation suffering early and now the bullpen the latest unit to come under siege.

As it stands, the Dodgers have Tony Cingrani, Josh Fields, Yimi Garcia, Erik Goeddel, Tom Koehler and Zac Rosscup all on the disabled list. If including those who could potentially work as a relief pitcher, Dennis Santana, Ross Stripling and Julio Urias are also on the DL.

Cingrani has been out since June 7 due to a left rotator cuff strain. He continued with the rehab process at the Dodgers’ Camelback Ranch Spring Training facility last month.

Cingrani was said to be making continued progress as recently as one week ago, but he’s since received a cortisone injection because of lingering trouble in his shoulder, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Tony Cingrani had another checkup because of continued shoulder discomfort. MRI showed no structural damage and he received a cortisone shot, delaying his return.

— Ken Gurnick (@kengurnick) August 3, 2018

While he had struggled with the Cincinnati Reds last season, Cingrani emerged as a valuable and dependable option for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts in his bullpen. That success carried into 2018, as 23 of Cingrani’s 28 appearances were scoreless efforts.

At this rate, it might be unlikely that the Dodgers see Cingrani return from the disabled list until active rosters expand on Sept. 1. The club presumably will be cautious once the recovery process resumes, and the southpaw likely would need to complete a rehab assignment.
