The Los Angeles Dodgers received some reinforcements on Sunday with the calendar turning to September and rosters expanding from 25 to 40. In the first of multiple waves, they activated Ross Stripling, David Freese and Dylan Floro from the 10-day injured list.

In addition to those three, the Dodgers are also expecting Alex Verdugo, Rich Hill and Max Muncy back from the injured list at some point during the month.

It doesn’t appear that all of their injured players will be able to return though. According to Alanna Rizzo of SportsNet LA, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed both Scott Alexander and Tyler White are being shut down for the season:

Dave Roberts said Tyler White & Scott Alexander will not be activated off the IL this year.

Alexander hasn’t been able to pitch since June 5 due to a nerve issue in his thumb. He was recently transferred to the 60-day injured list, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that he will be out the remainder of the season.

The southpaw was limited to 28 appearances in his second season with the Dodgers, going 3-2 with a 3.63 ERA, 5.07 FIP and 1.39 WHIP with nine strikeouts and seven walks in 17.1 innings.

Alexander was Los Angeles’ primary lefty specialist, and they addressed the void left by his injury by acquiring Adam Kolarek at the trade deadline.

The Dodgers acquired White from the Houston Astros before the deadline, but his time with the club didn’t pan out. White hit just .045/.192/.045 with two RBI in 12 games with the team before going down with a right trapezius strain. He had just one hit in 22 at-bats with four walks.

Overall on the season in 83 games between the Astros and Dodgers, White hit .208/.308/.304 with three home runs and 23 RBI.

Considering White’s season is done, he will likely soon be transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster for top prospect Gavin Lux, who is reportedly being called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Lux won’t be the only Minor League callup as Edwin Rios, Kyle Garlick and JT Chargois are also expected to make their way up to the big league club at some point.
