Dodgers Injury News: Julio Urias Expected To Return From Disabled List In 4-6 Weeks

As has been the case with plenty of frequency over recent years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have received production from a variety of pitchers in 2018 due to key starters and relievers going down with injuries.

One who has yet to contribute this season is left-hander Julio Urias, who had shoulder surgery last June and has been rehabbing at the Dodgers’ Camelback Ranch Spring Training facility in Arizona.

Urias seems to be making significant strides in his rehab as he recently threw live batting practice for the first time since undergoing the surgery. His fastball reportedly reached 92 mph in that session.

All the signs during Urias’ rehab have been positive, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes that he will be able to return to the big leagues in around one month, via Kaelen Jones of MLB.com:

Roberts said it’s “fair” to believe that left-hander Julio Urias will rejoin the team in four to six weeks.

Urias, who was placed on the DL after undergoing shoulder surgery in February, has been throwing to hitters at the Dodgers’ Spring Training facility and is “progressing very nicely,” per Roberts.

With the rosters set to expand on Sept. 1, which is around the six weeks timetable Roberts mentioned, that is a realistic return date for Urias. He will likely head out on a Minor League rehab assignment at some point before that.

Roberts did not address whether Urias would be utilized as a starter or a reliever when he returns, although given the Dodgers currently a plethora of starters, it may make sense to use him out of the bullpen.

That would also help limit his workload coming off the surgery before he returns to his traditional starter’s role next spring.
