Dodgers Injury News: Hyun-Jin Ryu Removed Due To Left Groin Strain

While the Los Angeles Dodgers faced a challenge heading into the regular season as they were without Justin Turner, their injury woes have compounded in recent weeks. As it stands, Logan Forsythe, Rich Hill, Yasiel Puig and Corey Seager are among those on the disabled list.

Forsythe might be on the verge of beginning a rehab assignment and Hill is expected to be activated and start Sunday in the finale of the Mexico Series. Puig is only three days into his DL stint, and Seager was lost for the season as he requires Tommy John surgery.

One of the few bright spots for the Dodgers thus far has been Hyun-Jin Ryu, who arguably has been the de facto ace of the starting rotation. He entered Wednesday’s outing 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA and 0.88 WHIP.

Ryu was facing an Arizona Diamondbacks club that roughed him up in his 2018 debut. Ryu stranded a leadoff walk and two-out base hit in the first, but saw his night come to an end in the next inning.

He grimaced and limped around the mound after delivering a pitch to Deven Marrero. Ryu was checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer and attempted to stretch before being removed.

According to Alanna Rizzo of SportsNet LA, he was forced to an early exit because of a left groin strain:

Should Ryu require a stint on the disabled list, which certainly appears likely, the Dodgers could turn to Walker Buehler on a more permanent basis. Buehler has made two starts thus far and is scheduled for another this weekend.

Other options may be Brock Stewart and Ross Stripling.
