Dodgers Injuries: Daniel Hudson Suffered Likely Torn ACL In Left Knee

Prior to the MLB lockout beginning last December, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Daniel Hudson to reunite with the veteran relief pitcher.

He previously spent the 2018 season with the Dodgers after signing a Minor League contract. Hudson went 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in his lone year with the Dodgers. He missed the final six weeks that year due to a second brush of right forearm tightness.

Hudson departed in free agency and signed a Minor League contract with the L.A. Angels. He was released prior to Opening Day and went on to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays, but was traded to the Washington Nationals that July.

Hudson being back with the Dodgers gave manager Dave Roberts an experienced reliever to use in high-leverage situations. However, the Dodgers lost Hudson to injury during Friday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

According to Juan Toribio of MLB.com, Roberts revealed Hudson suffered a torn ACL in his left knee that ends his 2022 season:

Hudson suffered his apparent left knee injury with one out in the eighth inning. After delivering a pitch to Ronald Acuña Jr., he went to make a play off the mound but collapsed to the ground in pain as his knee buckled.

Roberts and Dodgers trainer Nate Lucero rushed out to check on Hudson, who was assisted off the field.

Hudson is 2-3 with a 2.22 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 25 games this year.

Dodgers injuries mounting

Prior to the series opener against the Braves, the Dodgers placed Andrew Heaney on the 15-day injured list due to a left shoulder strain. Heaney is on the IL for a second time this season and after making just one start upon returning from a two-month absence.

Walker Buehler, Danny Duffy, Victor González, Tommy Kahnle, Dustin May and Blake Treinen are each on the IL as well and not expected to return until later in the season.
