Because of the MLB lockout wiping out the first week of the preliminary team schedules for the 2022 regular season, doubleheaders have become a necessity. For the Los Angeles Dodgers, it put two sets of doubleheaders at Dodger Stadium on their 2022 schedule.

Prior to Tuesday, the Dodgers had not played a doubleheader at Dodger Stadium since July 22, 1999, which came against the Colorado Rockies. That was due to a rainout from April 11 of that season. Colorado won both contests and swept the three-game series.

The Dodgers playing two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday also marked the first scheduled doubleheader at Dodger Stadium since Sept. 17, 1987, which was one day after Pope John Paul II held mass at the ballpark.

All-in-all, there have been only 10 doubleheader dates in the 60-year history of Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers will play an 11th later this season on Sept. 20 when they again host the Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers swept the Diamondbacks in the doubleheader, outscoring them 19-9 in the process.

July 22, 1999

As previously mentioned, the Rockies won both games of a day-night doubleheader against the Dodgers on July 22, 1999.

July 8, 1992

The Dodgers split their final day-night doubleheader of the 1992 season against the Expos, winning the first matchup in walk-off fashion before dropping Game 2.

July 7, 1992

One day later, the Dodgers had the tables turned on them as the Expos swept them in the third day-night doubleheader.

July 6, 1992

The Dodgers followed their sweep of the Phillies with another sweep against the Montreal Expos in their day-night doubleheader on July 6, 1992.

July 3, 1992

The Dodgers played four doubleheaders in five days during July of the 1992 season due to the riots that followed the not guilty verdicts in the Rodney King trial.

The Dodgers completed a sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies in their first of four day-night doubleheaders in five days.

Sept. 21, 1988

The Dodgers split their final day-night doubleheader of the 1988 season against the Padres, losing Game 1 and winning Game 2.

June 19, 1988

The Dodgers returned the favor two days later by sweeping the Padres in a day-night doubleheader, scoring 12 runs in Game 1 and winning the nightcap in walk-off fashion.

June 17, 1988

The Dodgers lost both games to the San Diego Padres, and were outscored, 11-7.

Sept. 17, 1987

The Dodgers split the first-ever doubleheader at Dodger Stadium against the Cincinnati Reds, losing the first game before taking the nightcap.
