Dodgers Vs. Marlins Highlights: Yasiel Puig, Cody Bellinger Hit Solo Home Runs

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ skid continued on Tuesday, as they lost their series opener to the Miami Marlins, 4-2, to drop to 16-25 on the season.

Things were supposed to change with both Justin Turner and Logan Forsythe returning to the lineup, but that ended up not being the case as the Dodgers went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. They stranded six and the bullpen let a few key runs across, leading to the loss.

Alex Wood had another solid start in which he received hardly any run support, giving up just two runs (one earned) in six innings, while striking out five.

The Dodgers were not able to get to Marlins starter Wei-Yin Chen, who came into the game with a 10.22 ERA on the season. Both of their runs were off the Miami bullpen.

The first run came in the seventh inning off hard-throwing right-hander Tayron Guerrero. Instead of utilizing that fastball, Guerrero hung a breaking ball to Yasiel Puig and he did not miss it, hitting a solo shot to right field.

After going homer-less in his first 28 games of the season, Puig has now gone deep in two straight games, with the first coming at home on Mother’s Day to fulfill a promise to his mom.

Los Angeles’ second run came in the ninth inning off closer Brad Ziegler. With one out, Cody Bellinger got ahold of a pitch and hit it out to straightaway center, 443 feet from plate.

Bellinger has been pressing as of late and was 0-for-3 in the game prior to that at-bat.

While hitting two home runs was nice for a Dodgers team that has suffered through a power outage so far in 2018, both of them were of the solo variety. The Dodgers have hit 12 home runs in the month of May, with all of them being solo shots.
