The Los Angeles Dodgers appeared to lack energy in the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, but bounced back with an impressive effort on Tuesday night in a 6-2 win at American Family Field.

Eric Lauer entered the night 7-1 with a 2.37 ERA in 11 career starts against the Dodgers. However, the southpaw was chased from the game after 3.2 innings.

Mookie Betts got the Dodgers going early with the 39th leadoff home run of his career. Freddie Freeman then walked, stole second base and took third on an errant pickoff throw. Will Smith’s sacrifice fly provided L.A. with a 2-0 lead before Lauer could get through the first inning.

James Outman’s double in the second inning led to a run on Miguel Rojas’ two-out single. Smith then hit a solo home run off Lauer in the third. Miguel Vargas broke the game open with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

The three home runs gave the Dodgers 61 on the season, passing the Atlanta Braves for most in the National League. The Dodgers improved to 10-1 this year when hitting at least three homers in a game.

Chris Taylor provided highlights for the Dodgers in the field, making a pair of impressive catches. They were reminiscent of the catches Taylor made in the 2018 National League Championship Series and last season.

Dodgers bullpen game backs Syndergaard

Noah Syndergaard was given extra rest between starts but only managed to pitch one inning because of a blister/cut on his right index finger.

The Dodgers bullpen picked up the slack and had a stretch of retiring 13 batters in a row before Shelby Miller allowed a home run with one out in the seventh inning. Miller allowed a second homer, which was all the Brewers scored in the game.
