Dodgers Highlights: Max Muncy, Chris Taylor & Joey Gallo Homer Against Twins; Charlie Freeman Throws First Pitch

The Los Angeles Dodgers hit three home runs on Freddie Freeman bobblehead night to complete a two-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins and earn their 10th consecutive victory, their longest winning streak since 2017.

Before the game, the Dodgers honored Freeman by having his son Charlie throw out the first pitch to his father, which drew a roar from the crowd before those cheers became boos for Carlos Correa.

Those boos then turned into cheers again as Max Muncy opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run. It was the two-time All-Star’s third homer in his last four games and fourth in August following a first-half slump as he recovered from a torn UCL.

Later in the inning, Gavin Lux reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second base before advancing to third on a throwing error. He then scored on a sacrifice fly from Cody Bellinger to go up 2-0.

That lead quickly vanished in the third inning when Jorge Polanco hit a three-run blast off Dodgers starter Ryan Pepiot. The Twins then added another run in the fight inning on a Gary Sanchez solo home run, putting them up 4-2.

The Dodgers cut that lead in the fifth inning when Trea Turner singled to left field, which allowed Mookie Betts to score. Will Smith then doubled into right field to drive in Turner and tie the game, 4-4.

In the sixth, Chris Taylor gave the Dodgers to lead again with his seventh homer of the season.

Joey Gallo then pinch-hit in the seventh inning and hit an opposite-field three-run shot to put the Dodgers up 8-4. For Gallo, it was his first homer with the club since being acquired at Aug. 2 trade deadline.

The Twins scored a run in the ninth off a wild pitch from Craig Kimbrel and put a runner on third, but they weren’t able to add any more runs as the Dodgers won 8-5.

Dodgers broke attendance record

Freeman’s bobblehead night drew an announced attendance of 53,432, which gave the Dodgers their 13th sellout of the season and the single-game attendance high for any 2022 MLB game thus far.

They previously set the MLB attendance mark on July 21 against the San Francisco Giants with a crowd of 53,165. That was then broken for Clayton Kershaw bobblehead night, which had a 53,302 announced attendance.
