The Los Angeles Dodgers built on their comeback win Sunday night by shutting out the Atlanta Braves to come away with a series split at Truist Park.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto didn’t replicate the efficiency seen in his return from the 60-day injured list last week, but he successfully worked through multiple instances of trouble to complete four scoreless innings.

The Braves had their leadoff man reach in every inning against Yamamoto, only to go 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position during that span. Included in that was stranding a leadoff triple in the fourth inning.

Yamamoto also was aided by Tommy Edman and Kiké Hernández combining for a terrific relay to throw out Michael Harris II as he attempted to score from first base on Jorge Soler’s double.

That preserved the Dodgers’ 1-0 lead that was taken in the top of the third inning without a hit. Miguel Rojas manufactured it by drawing a leadoff walk, moving to second base on a groundout, stealing third and scoring on a Max Fried wild pitch.

In the fifth inning, Rojas hit an RBI single after Tommy Edman led off with a double. Rojas later beat a throw to home plate after Shohei Ohtani grounded to first base.

Rojas’ one-out walk in the seventh inning led to another run and the Dodgers proceeded to break the game open. Mookie Betts’ sacrifice fly extended their lead to 5-0, Teoscar Hernández followed with an RBI single and Freddie Freeman offset a pitching change by going the other way for a three-run homer.

Dodgers magic number

The Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the National League West title is now down to nine.
