The Los Angeles Dodgers uncharacteristically fell into an early deficit at Dodger Stadium, but by the end of the night they completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies to extend their winning streak to a season-best six games.

Ryan McMahon hit a solo home run off Julio Urias in the first inning, and Garrett Hampson did so in the third. While L.A. worked Austin Gomber for plenty of walks in a start at Coors Field, he largely kept them at bay the second time around.

Chris Taylor (double) and Justin Turner (single) did put two on with nobody out in the first inning, but Gomber struck out Max Muncy and got Will Smith to ground into a double play. It wasn’t until the third inning that the Dodgers managed to get on the board.

After Urias’ bloop single and Taylor’s walk, Turner ambushed the first pitch be saw from Gomber for a go-ahead home run to center field. It marked a second consecutive game Turner hit a homer, though this time it came much more cleanly and not at the expense of nachos or other concessions.

A missed strike three along with sloppy defense in the top of the sixth wound up hurting Urias and the Dodgers as the Rockies scored three runs to take the lead. L.A. continued to face a deficit until the bottom of the seventh, when Muncy hit what held as a game-winning three-run home run.

The Dodgers later loaded the bases and scored an insurance run before the Rockies could get out of the inning.

Dennis Santana and David Price threw a scoreless inning each to finish out the game. Price’s save was the first in the regular season of his career and second overall when including the playoffs.

At 11-2, the Dodgers are off to the best 13-game start for a defending World Series champion. They additionally are 10-0 this season when hitting at least one home run.

Dodgers celebrate Jackie Robinson Day

Prior to taking the field, the Dodgers and members of the coaching staff and front office came together at the Jackie Robinson statue in center field. Manager Dave Roberts addressed the team, encouraging them to live by Robinson’s example.

“It was really cool,” Muncy said. This is a really cool day all across baseball. It’s the only day that everyone is wearing the same uniform number. As cool as it is for a lot of other teams to do that, this is the Dodgers. It’s where Jackie played, so it means a whole lot more in this uniform. To be able to do it was really cool. Doc had a lot of really good messages.

“The biggest thing was talking about being a good person. That was one of the things Jackie did a lot. He was a great person. There were a lot of quotes shown on the scoreboard of what kind of person he was. Doc tried to relay that to us and challenged us to continue to be better people. It’s not always about baseball.

“There’s a lot of things going on in the world that we can do a lot to help with. A lot of that starts with just being a good person.”
