The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a deficit and rallied late to get a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs in 10 innings, capped off by Will Smith’s fifth career walk-off hit.

Tyler Anderson didn’t allow a baserunner until the fourth inning but he exited with the Dodgers trailing 3-0. Despite the southpaw going seven innings, he was bested by Cubs starter Keegan Thompson.

The right-hander wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning to keep the game locked in a scoreless tie. Thompson then retired 13 batters in a row before Freddie Freeman dropped a hustle double into left field with two outs in the sixth inning.

That wound up leading to a run as Seiya Suzuki dropped a routine fly ball in right field. The unearned run also marked the end of Thompson’s night.

Jake Lamb contributed to the comeback effort in the seventh inning by slugging his first home run with the Dodgers. Mookie Betts had an opportunity to get his first walk-off hit with the Dodgers, but settled for a game-tying sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

That rally was sparked by Justin Turner lining a leadoff single into right field, which extended his hitting streak to seven games. Turner has gone 15-for-31 (.484 batting average) in his last nine games.

Freeman was intentionally walked to begin the 10th, which set the stage for Smith’s walk-off RBI single.

Dodgers reigning over National League

Along with improving to 5-0 against the Cubs this season, the Dodgers are 2.5 games ahead of the New York Mets for the best record in the National League.

The Dodgers’ 28-13 record at home additionally is best in the NL.
