The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Miami Marlins in a 3-1 victory on the shoulders of a strong performance from Gavin Stone and a one-man army on offense with Teoscar Hernández driving in all the runs.

Stone started the day retiring eight straight Marlins, allowing the first base runner with two outs in the third inning. He allowed his only run of the day in the fourth when Bryan De La Cruz clubbed a solo home run.

The 25-year-old lowered his ERA to 3.55 with a 1.26 WHIP. On Wednesday, Stone completed seven innings, allowing the lone run and tallying four strikeouts.

Hernández opened up the scoring in the third inning, driving in Freddie Freeman, who singled, advanced to 2nd on a balk, and moved to third on a wild pitch. On the fifth pitch, the Dodgers right fielder smoked a single to right field with a 107.5 mph exit velocity.

The score remained notched at 1-to-1 until the sixth, when Hernández clubbed his 10th home run of the year, good for fifth-most in Major League Baseball. The Dodgers outfielder now has 29 RBI on the season, most on the team.

The Dodgers kept their win streak alive, which stands at seven games, and they’ve now won 14 of their previous 16 matchups.

Gavin Stone recent Dodgers success

Over his last three starts, Stone owns a 1.35 ERA. His continued presence in the Dodgers’ rotation since the starting of the year has been a breath of fresh air and a huge boost to the backend.

Stone’s ability to avoid the big swing from opposing hitters has made him valuable, keeping his spot firmly secured until his results say otherwise.
