Dodgers Highlights: Cody Bellinger, Austin Barnes Homer In Record-Breaking Win Over Pirates

Friday was a record-breaking night for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they homered in their 33rd straight game at Dodger Stadium, which is a new Major League record. The Dodgers scored early and often en route to a 6-2 victory in the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Cody Bellinger did not waste any time ensuring that record would be broken, hitting a two-run home run off Pirates starter Chris Archer in the bottom of the first inning.

The homer was Bellinger’s 13th of the season, which tied him with Christian Yelich for the Major League lead. It also meant Bellinger now holds the MLB record for most total bases before May 1, with 88.

He passed his former teammate Chase Utley (85 bases), who previously held it for his monster first month of the season with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008.

Bellinger wasn’t the only Dodger to homer on the night. Austin Barnes broke out of a slump with a solo shot off Archer in the bottom of the second.

Barnes went into the game just 1-for-29 in his last 10, but he hit a rocket for his third home run of the season and then later hit a two-run double to finish the night 2-for-4.

All of those runs were in support of Hyun-Jin Ryu, who had another quality outing for the Dodgers. Ryu tossed seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out a season-high 10 batters without issuing a walk to earn his third win of the year.
