The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a four-run deficit in the ninth inning and completed an improbable comeback in the 10th on James Outman’s walk-off RBI double against the Toronto Blue Jays. With the 8-7 victory, the Dodgers have now split their eight extra-inning games this season.

After the Dodgers fell into an early deficit, Freddie Freeman tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. That extended Freeman’s on-base streak to an MLB-leading 25 games and the 442-foot blast was the longest hit by a Dodgers player at home this season.

The Blue Jays pulled back ahead on Bo Bichette’s two-run homer in the third inning and extended it when Alejandro Kirk hit an RBI double in the eighth.

That appeared to loom large as J.D. Martinez hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning that only cut the Dodgers’ deficit in half rather than tying the game.

Justin Bruihl ran into trouble in the ninth inning as the Blue Jays loaded the bases and temporarily broke the game open on Danny Jansen’s three-run double.

Dodgers rally for walk-off win

Just as it appeared the Dodgers were trudging toward their first three-game losing streak since being swept by the San Francisco Giants from June 16-18, they began to mount a comeback.

They started the bottom of the ninth with three consecutive singles, the last of which was an RBI base hit from Mookie Betts. Max Muncy drew a walk with the bases loaded, and when the Dodgers were down to their final out, Chris Taylor hit a chopper that skipped off Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and brought in two runs to tie the game despite the ball never leaving the infield.

Will Smith scored the tying run from second base, inadvertently running through third-base coach Dino Ebel putting up a stop sign.

Smith was at the center of another key moment in the 10th inning with a strong effort to apply a tag on Kevin Kiermaier after receiving a throw from Betts.

That helped set the stage for Outman’s first career walk-off hit. Outman finished 3-for-3 with two walks.
