Dodgers News: Gavin Lux Appreciative Of Recognition By Kenosha County

Gavin Lux means a lot to his hometown of Kenosha, Wis., and Indian Trail High School and Academy. Lux became the first high schooler from Wisconsin to be selected in the first round in 37 years when the Los Angeles Dodgers made him the 20th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.

At that time, there had been only 26 total high school players from the state to be drafted and signed in the top 10 rounds of the MLB Draft. It is not hard to see why Lux was the one to break the streak and put Wisconsin back on the map.

During his senior season at Indian Trail High School, Lux had a .560 batting average and was one of the top-50 high school prospects in the Draft for his class.

Lux quickly shot up rankings during his time in the Dodgers’ Minor League system, becoming the No. 2 prospect in baseball by 2020.

And to hear him tell it, none of that would have been possible without the support he received from his community and the maturation he achieved during his time at Indian Trail High School, via Terry Flores of Kenosha News:

“Pretty much everyone here in this room has had some role in helping me get to where I’ve been. I appreciate everyone that showed up. Obviously you guys are here for a reason. And thank you to you guys for doing this. It’s a huge honor for me. I love the people, I love Kenosha. I can’t wait to keep coming back and giving back. I just appreciate everyone in this room.”

Since that 2016 draft, Lux has put together quite the career for himself with five years under his belt in the Majors and two World Series rings on his hand.

As one of the city’s biggest success stories and for the impact he has had on his community there, Nov. 23 will forever been known as Gavin Lux Day in Kenosha.

Gavin Lux’s future with the Dodgers

Barring any future extension, Lux remains under team control through the 2027 season.

However, with Mookie Betts expected to move back to the infield, and likely playing second base, it’s put Lux’s future with the Dodgers into some uncertainty.
