Ryan Brasier emerged as a key contributor in the Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen after signing a Minor League contract with the team this past May following the Boston Red Sox’ decision to designated him for assignment.

The right-hander worked his way into a high-leverage role and posted a minuscule 0.70 ERA, 2.48 FIP and 0.72 WHIP in 38.2 innings pitched across 39 appearances.

Brasier is now a free agent and figures to receive a substantial raise from the $2 million he earned this past season. He could join the likes of Tommy Kahnle and Chris Martin to cash in after successful stints with the Dodgers.

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Dodgers have checked in on Brasier’s market and could re-sign him if the price is right:

The Dodgers appear largely set with their bullpen after re-signing Joe Kelly to a one-year, $8 million deal and are expecting the returns of Blake Treinen and J.P. Feyereisen, but they’ve kept tabs on reliever Ryan Brasier’s market so far this winter, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The Dodgers have already made several moves to address their bullpen this offseason, including picking up Blake Treinen’s $1 million team option for 2024 and reportedly re-signing Joe Kelly to a one-year contract.

Yency Almonte, Caleb Ferguson, J.P. Feyereisen, Brusdar Graterol, Michael Grove, Evan Phillips and Alex Vesia are among other relief pitchers set to return next year.

With an already crowded group, the Dodgers will likely only look to re-sign Brasier if his market fails to develop and he has to settle for a lesser contract. However, it seems likely another team would be willing to offer him a multi-year deal as relief pitching is always in demand.

Evan Phillips credited Ryan Brasier for helping him settle in as Dodgers closer

Brasier essentially assumed the fireman role that Phillips previously occupied, allowing the latter to settle in as the permanent closer.

Phillips gave credit to Brasier for making the transition seamless and bringing stability to the Dodgers bullpen. The group compiled a 2.28 ERA and 9.1 strikeouts per nine with 29 saves in 37 chances after Brasier joined.
