Dodgers Free Agent Rumors: Chris Taylor Expected To Receive At Least 3-Year Contract Offers

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell short of their goal of repeating as World Series champions and now face many difficult roster decisions this offseason. Chris Taylor was among the team’s players to reach free agency, which is a group that consists of several key contributors.

He earned a first career All-Star Game selection and continued to contribute all over the diamond.

The 31-year-old saw time at six different positions, batting an overall .254/.344/.438 with 25 doubles, 20 home runs and 73 RBI in 148 regular season games before going on to hit .351 across three playoff series.

With more teams prioritizing versatility than ever before, Taylor’s market is expected to be strong. According to Jorge Castillo of the L.A. Times, the utility man could command multiple three-year contract offers and may even secure a fourth year:

He’s expected to see three-year offers with the potential for a four-year deal.

Given his importance to the organization and the uncertainty surrounding Corey Seager in free agency, the Dodgers presumably would be interested in retaining Taylor.

A four-year pact for Taylor isn’t out of the question, either, as Ben Zobrist received the same length of contract from the Chicago Cubs in 2015. Zobrist perhaps is the most comparable free agent to Taylor despite being 34 at the time of his signing.

Since being acquired from the Seattle Mariners in 2016, Taylor has hit .264/.341/.458 with 135 doubles, 25 triples, 79 home runs, 299 RBI and 50 stolen bases over parts of six seasons with the Dodgers (657 games).

Taylor enjoyed time with Dodgers

After the Dodgers were eliminated by the Atlanta Braves in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, Taylor reflected on his time with the team but couldn’t say for sure where he’d be playing next season.

“It’s been a lot of fun playing with these guys,” he began. “I’ve loved every minute of it. Definitely disappointed, but it’s been a joy to be part of this team.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. All I can say is I’ve loved every minute I’ve been a Dodger. I have no idea what’s going to happen this offseason, but the last five seasons I’ve been here, it’s been amazing. I’m so thankful I’ve had the opportunity to play for the Dodgers.”
