Looking to build off an impressive rookie campaign, Andrew Toles broke camp with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was featured on his first career Opening Day roster.

Toles received the brunt of his playing time against right-handed pitchers — appearing in 24 games (14 starts) during the month of April — and slashing .239/.289/.465 with one double and five home runs over 76 plate appearances.

The 25-year-old improved his numbers in May, where he hit .360/.385/.440 with a pair of doubles over 26 trips to the plate. Unfortunately for Toles, he suffered a torn right ACL in May 9’s contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates after chasing down a ground-rule double by Andrew McCutchen.

Toles immediately underwent surgery and missed the remainder of the season. All-in-all, he batted .271/.314/.458 with eight extra-base hits, 15 RBI and 17 runs scored in 102 plate appearances (31 games).

2017 Highlight

On April 30 against the Philadelphia Phillies, Toles tallied a double and home run in four at-bats, while driving in three runs to boot. His offensive production led the Dodgers to a 5-3 victory — their 14th victory of the season.

2018 Outlook

Toles is under contract and isn’t eligible for free agency until 2023. Should he arrive to Spring Training in full health, he figures to compete for playing time at all three outfield positions.

His rehab is reportedly going well and the Dodgers are optimistic that he will be healthy and ready to go at the beginning of Spring Training.
