The Los Angeles Dodgers reached the halfway point of the season with a win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon, also finishing a span of playing 17 straight games.

With the team having its first day off in a while on Monday, DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand recorded an episode of DodgerHeads, reviewing the first half while also discussing the MLB trade deadline that is just around the corner, and more.

The episode started with Spiegel and Starkand giving the Dodgers first-half grades, and both agreed that the team deserves an A+ considering they have the best record in all of baseball at 22-8 as well as the best run differential, by far, at +79.

They then singled out some players that deserve recognition for their first-half efforts, with Mookie Betts specifically being named the team MVP. Clayton Kershaw, Corey Seager, AJ Pollock, Dustin May as well as various members of the bullpen also received praise for being a big part of why the Dodgers have the best record in all of baseball.

It wasn’t all positive though, as Joc Pederson, Max Muncy, Kiké Hernandez and Julio Urias were all identified as players who disappointed a bit in the first half. Although, they were also recognized as those who certainly could show improvements to finish out the season.

Dodgers trade deadline

The conversation then shifted towards the MLB trade deadline, which is just around the corner on Monday, Aug. 31. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman both recognized how peculiar this deadline is compared to other years, although if the team is looking to make a move, starting pitching and a right-handed bat are both potential areas of need.

Texas Rangers righty Lance Lynn and Cleveland Indians righty Mike Clevinger were recognized as potential starting pitchers to target, while JD Martinez of the Boston Red Sox fits the bill as a right-handed bat to help the Dodgers improved against left-handed pitching.

Spiegel and Starkand closed the show by answering some fan questions, as well as predicting some under/overs for the remainder of the 2020 season.
