As the world continues to grapple with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, efforts are being made to support the millions of healthcare workers and first responders putting their lives on the line every day to treat infected patients.

To show their appreciation, many people have taken to buying free meals for the heroes working on the front lines. Earlier this month, Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen purchased breakfast and had it delivered to employees at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital.

A plethora of landmarks around the United States are also honoring healthcare workers by turning blue. Among those to take part in recent weeks include the Empire State Building, The Forum and the L.A. Convention Center.

Dodger Stadium recently joined in on the act by lighting up blue as a tribute to the healthcare employees working around the clock to combat COVID-19.

Tonight, we bring light to a different kind of blue. To all the healthcare workers, especially our hometown heroes at @UCLAHealth leading the charge against this pandemic, we thank everyone around the world for your bravery and heroism. We #LightItBlue for you. #TeamLA pic.twitter.com/aubSIMRKFY

While it is appearing increasingly unlikely that games will be played at Dodger Stadium this year, certain employees facing financial uncertainty stand to receive assistance from the Dodgers.

The program will benefit “event staff, concessions, parking, cleaning personnel employed by third-party contractors, and the Dodgers Foundation event staff.”

“Nearly 4 million fans pass through our gates each year, and it wouldn’t be possible without the amazing service provided by our great gameday staff that makes the Dodger Stadium experience so special,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement last month.

“These are challenging economic times, and we want to make sure that we support those in this committed group that may be having a particularly difficult time.”
