The Los Angeles Dodgers have four prospects who received recognition on the FanGraphs Top 100 list for the 2022 season, headlined by Diego Cartaya at No. 37.

Joining Cartaya in the rankings of the top 100 prospects are Michael Busch (No. 79), Andy Pages (No. 86) and Bobby Miller (No. 94).

Cartaya, the organization’s consensus top prospect, was part of the Dodgers’ 2018-2019 international signing period class and has quickly risen through the ranks. He enjoyed an excellent, albeit injury-shortened 2021 season with Low-A Rancho Cucamonga that saw him hit .298/.409/.614 with 10 home runs and a 157 wRC+ in 31 games.

Busch, in his second professional season in the Dodgers organization, hit .267/.386/.484 with 27 doubles, 20 home runs and 67 RBI over 107 games with Double-A Tulsa.

Pages, who is considered one of the Dodgers’ top power bats in the Minors, hit .265/.394/.539 with 25 doubles, 31 home runs and 88 RBI in 120 games with High-A Great Lakes.

Miller went 2-2 with a 1.91 ERA over 14 games (11 starts) for the Loons, then struggled a bit with the Drillers as he pitched to a 4.82 ERA in three starts.

While FanGraphs ranked the prospects by number, the website noted that their FV (Future Value) grade is more important. The metric attempts to combine a prospect’s potential as well as his chance of realizing it into one number. Cartaya, Busch, Pages and Miller all received a 50 FV.

According to FanGraphs, hitters with a 50 FV are more likely to become “average everyday players” who accumulate 1.6-2.4 WAR annually. Pitchers with a 50 FV are more likely to become “No. 4 starters” who accumulate 1.8-2.5 WAR annually.

Dodgers hire Tim Laker as Minor League hitting coordinator

The Dodgers have made several changes to their front office and coaching staff during the offseason, including most notably promoting Brandon Gomes to general manager.

One move that went unannounced was L.A. hiring former Seattle Mariners hitting coach Tim Laker as their Minor League hitting coordinator. The Mariners originally hired Laker as their hitting coach for the 2019 season but he declined the club’s offer to return this year.
