Diego Cartaya Headlines Dodgers Prospects On MLB.com Top-100 List For 2022

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to have one of the best farm systems in baseball, and that was further evident by five Minor Leaguers being ranked on MLB.com’s top-100 prospects list for the 2022 season.

The group of Dodgers prospects were led by Diego Cartaya, who was ranked 28th overall by Jonathan Mayo. Also representing the Dodgers on the annual rankings were Bobby Miller (No.57), Michael Busch (No. 67), Andy Pages (No. 68) and Miguel Vargas (No. 94).

Cartaya put together an excellent stateside campaign in 2021 despite playing in just 31 games. He belted 10 home runs with a .298 batting average, 1.023 on-base plus slugging percentage, and 158 wRC+.

Cartaya is just 20 years old and has an enormous amount of potential, both with the bat and behind the plate. The Dodgers currently have one of the best catchers in the game in Will Smith, but Cartaya will push for playing time in a few seasons.

Miller has had a large chunk of his professional career thus far impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but he is still progressing well and has an opportunity to make his MLB debut with the Dodgers this season.

Across 56.1 innings in his career, Miller has posted a 2.40 ERA with 70 strikeouts.

Busch, the Dodgers’ first-round pick from the 2019 MLB Draft, is now 24 years old and has some notable upside. Busch possesses some of the best plate discipline in the Minor Leagues, evidenced by an impressive 14.1% walk rate over 107 games with Double-A Tulsa last season.

Busch reminds evaluators of Max Muncy with his in-game power and ability to get on base. Expect to see Busch debut at some point with the Dodgers in late 2022 or early 2023.

Pages had his coming out party in 2021, crushing 31 home runs in 120 games with a 14.3% walk rate and 152 wRC+. Pages has hit well at every level, but he truly became a holistic talent with Low-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2021.

Lastly, Vargas is consistently ranked a lot higher by other prospect evaluators. With Double-A Tulsa last year, Vargas played 83 games, hitting 16 home runs, stole seven bases, and produced a .321 batting average.

Dodgers prospects ranked by Keith Law

The Dodgers organization was previously lauded by Keith Law of The Athletic, who also had Cartaya as the organization’s best prospect.

Law has the exact same names in his top-five that MLB.com does with the only difference being Vargas and Pages swapped. Eddys Leonard also made an appearance in Law’s top-100 prospects list, with Ryan Pepiot just missing the cut.
