Diamondbacks Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Miguel Vargas Starts For Jason Heyward

The Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 6-4 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks and now go for their fifth win in a row when the teams continue their series on Tuesday night.

Gavin Stone takes the ball for his ninth start of the season for the Dodgers and looks to keep it going. He is coming off a solid outing against the San Francisco Giants that saw him allow one run on five hits in six innings of work.

Stone has allowed two runs or fewer in six consecutive starts dating back to April 13, throwing at least six innings in five of them.

“I would say probably just confidence, conviction,” Stone said recently of his success.

“I feel like that’s key for me, but for every pitcher. If you pitch with conviction, more often than not, good things will happen.”

Stone is an overall 4-1 with a 3.27 ERA, 3.81 FIP and 1.27 WHIP in 44 innings pitched this year. He is making his first career start against the Diamondbacks.

Arizona counters with Brandon Pfaadt, who was dominant in his last start against the Cincinnati Reds. He gave up just one run on two hits and collected nine strikeouts over seven innings.

The right-hander enters at 1-3 with a 4.17 ERA, 3.37 FIP and 1.11 WHIP in 54 innings across nine starts this season. He owns a 9.35 ERA and 2.08 WHIP in two career starts against the Dodgers.

The Dodgers go with their usual lineup, with the exception of Miguel Vargas drawing a start against a right-hander, rather than Jason Heyward. The decision likely comes to give Heyward a day off as he just recently returned from injury, while also finding some playing time for Vargas.
