It’s no secret that Albert Pujols is enjoying his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. While the future Hall of Famer has always loved playing for whatever team he is on, he said this week, “This is the most fun I’ve had in a while.”

However, that is something a lot of players say after they end up on a new team, and it isn’t always true. But according to David Freese, it’s clear Pujols truly means what he said about the experience thus far of being with the Dodgers.

Freese and Pujols were teammates on the St. Louis Cardinals from 2009-11, and the L.A. Angels from 2014-15. They became close friends during those two stints playing together.

When Freese came to the Dodgers in 2019, he provided veteran leadership while becoming an impact bat against left-handed pitchers in a platoon role and off the bench. That of course is same role Pujols is now filling for L.A.

Sometimes you see quotes and call BS on how much fun someone is having lol. @PujolsFive getting to figure out what it’s like. Love to see it.

During an introductory press conference after signing with the Dodgers, Pujols said he expected to speak with Freese.

“I’m pretty sure he’s probably waiting to give me a week or so. David is a great friend of mine. I really respect the way he played the game,” Pujols said.

“I had a chance to play with him again after St. Louis, with the Angels organization, and then he came here and did a really good job. I’m pretty sure he’s going to give me a little input. I’m excited to hear from him.”

Pujols hasn’t said what advice he got from Freese, if any, but he has performed better than expected in the role. Since joining the Dodgers, he’s hitting .263/.300/.526 with six home runs.

Darvish appreciated Turner

Yu Darvish, who was acquired by the Dodgers in 2017, said he felt fortunate to play with Justin Turner, citing his leadership after their loss to the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the World Series.

Although the season ended poorly and Darvish left in free agency to sign with the Chicago Cubs, he has made it clear how enjoyable it was getting to play for the Dodgers.
