The Los Angeles Dodgers’ biggest series of the season has gotten off to a good start as they defeated beaten the Colorado Rockies on back-to-back nights, with the latest win coming on Chris Taylor’s walk-off home run in the 10th inning.
The win gave the Dodgers a 1.5-game cushion in the National League West standings entering Wednesday night’s series finale at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers only have 10 total games remaining in the regular season.
Overall, they have won 17 of their last 24 games, including series victories over playoff-caliber teams such as the Rockies (twice), Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals. Because of that, manager Dave Roberts feels the Dodgers are playing their best baseball of the season, as seen on SportsNet LA:
“Yeah. It’s not really going out on a limb. We’ve been so inconsistent all year long, but things are starting to come together.”
Justin Turner, who has been the best hitter in baseball since the All-Star break, echoed his manager’s statement:
“We’re playing good baseball. Up and down the lineup, guys are taking quality at-bats, playing good defense, starting pitching has been outstanding for us all season long and they’re continuing to go out there and give us chances to win games. I think we all like the way we’re going about it right now.”
While they are playing well at the right time, the season is hardly over. A loss to the Rockies would cut the Dodgers’ lead in the NL West to just a half game, and they still face road games with the Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants.
Arizona is in a free fall but would love nothing more than to climb back into the NL West race or spoil the Dodgers’ season. The Giants have traditionally played their rival tough, and there’s no reason to expect otherwise even though they were already eliminated from postseason contention.
