Dave Roberts: Dodgers Can ‘Count On’ Chris Taylor

The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a series win over the Colorado Rockies with a 6-2 victory on Jackie Robinson Day, led in part by contributions of Chris Taylor.

The 34-year-old put the Dodgers on the scoreboard when he grounded into a double play in the first inning, and later recorded his first RBI of the season with a single in the third.

Taylor, who got the start in center field, also robbed Ezequiel Tovar of what would’ve been a game-tying hit with a diving catch in the top of the third.

“I like the way he just came in ready when called upon,” manager Dave Roberts said of Taylor. “He made a great play in center field that saved some pitches and kind of put a potential inning to bed. And got a big hit. C.T. is a guy that’s gotten a lot of big hits for us throughout his career with us.

“You can always kind of count on him when you put him in the lineup. He performed tonight for us.”

Taylor is in his 10th season with the Dodgers and has been a key contributor over the years, largely due to his versatility and timely hitting.

Taylor has appeared in four games so far this season, going 3-for-12 at the plate and seeing all of his time in the outfield.

Dave Roberts wants Chris Taylor to be more ‘consistent’

Taylor endured the worst season of his career last year and focused on improving his swing mechanics during the winter.

“I see a consistent mind, as we have always seen. Preparedness, openness to do whatever we ask,” Roberts said of Taylor during Spring Training.

“I want to get him at-bats. Like most guys early on, he’s trying to find his swing. Sometimes you’ve just got to move guys around the diamond to get them in the lineup, and Chris is completely fine with that.”
