The 2020 Major League Baseball season has been anything but normal due to the new reality brought on by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Players, coaches and staff members have been forced to adhere to strict protocols to prevent potential outbreaks while fans are not permitted to attend games. Those are just a few changes that MLB has seen this year, which understandably is taking some time to get used to.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, they are taking the unprecedented season in stride. Entering Tuesday, the club boasts the Majors’ best record at 26-10 and is well on its way to an eighth consecutive National League West title.

Though it took awhile to get comfortable, Cody Bellinger noted that his Dodgers teammates have adjusted to the unusual campaign, via SportsNet LA:

“We’re having fun and I think we’re all used to this season. It took a while for a lot of people to get used to it. I would assume that was throughout the league, but it feels normal now. We’re just playing the game like we knew we could going into it.”

Bellinger’s comments echo his performance at the plate. After a slow start to the season, he has bounced back in a big way, hitting a stellar .318/.412/.795 with three doubles, six home runs and 11 RBI across 51 plate appearances over the last two weeks of play.

Historic month of August comes to close

The Dodgers posted a Major League-best 21-7 record during the month of August and most notably broke the NL home run record.

The club slugged 57 homers to overtake the 2019 Atlanta Braves, who hit 56 in June of last season. Looking to keep things rolling in September and October, Mookie Betts reiterated the focus is on winning the World Series.

“I don’t think it means anything,” he said of the Dodgers breaking the NL record. “It’s a pretty cool stat to accomplish, but I think the No. 1 thing is the World Series, so we have to continue to work for that.”

Betts tied Bellinger for the Dodgers lead with 10 home runs in August. He is in the midst of an outstanding first season with the organization and figures to factor into the NL MVP race later this offseason.
