Cody Bellinger: Dodgers Reached Back-To-Back World Series ‘The Right Way’

The Los Angeles Dodgers put together one of the best seasons in franchise history in 2017, finishing with an MLB-best 104 wins and reaching the World Series for the first time since 1988.

The Houston Astros, who finished with the best record in the American League, awaited them. The two teams played to seven games in what once was considered an all-time World Series classic. That since has change in light of Major League Baseball finding the Astros cheated that year.

While the Dodgers returned to the World Series in 2018, they were overwhelmed by the Boston Red Sox in five games. The sting from that loss is also accompanied by sign-stealing allegations that MLB is currently investigating.

Even with acknowledging the obvious disappointment that came with the Dodgers falling short, Cody Bellinger took solace in the team not compromising the integrity of the game, via Alden Gonzalez of ESPN:

“It sucks, man. We were close, but we did it the right way.”

Bellinger’s remarks came the day prior to MLB imposing penalties against the Astros and detailing their findings in a nine-page report. Later that night, the Dodgers issued a statement explaining they were complying with the league’s wishes and would not have comment on the investigation into Astros or losing the 2017 World Series.

Not all players have abided by the gag order, with Bellinger among those to further comment. As speculation ran rampant on social media of Astros players possibly using wearable devices as well, Bellinger voiced his dismay and called on the league to take action.

Alex Wood responded to Bellinger on Twitter, sharing his surprise that no Astros player was the subject of any punishment. MLB later issued a statement to explain their investigation did not uncover any evidence of the Astros using wearable devices.
