Chris Taylor was voted the Los Angeles Dodgers’ nominee for the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award, marking the first time he has been up for Major League Baseball’s prestigious honor.

“I’m truly humbled to represent the Dodgers as the Roberto Clemente Award nominee,” Taylor said in a statement. “Mary and I are incredibly proud to be a part of both the Los Angeles and Virginia Beach communities and to be recognized for trying to give something back to these great places and people is something I will hold in my heart forever.”

The Roberto Clemente Award is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

Each team nominates one player to be considered for the league-wide winner of the award in tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character. MLB’s overall Roberto Clemente Award winner will be announced during the World Series.

Steve Garvey (1981), Clayton Kershaw (2012) and Justin Turner (2022) are the only Dodgers to ever win the Roberto Clemente Award since its inception in 1971.

In 2020, Chris and his wife Mary established the CT3 Foundation, which works to raise funds for children with cancer and other life-altering conditions as well as raising awareness for those vulnerable in their local communities.

The Taylors have partnered with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), Variety Boys and Girls Club in Boyle Heights, Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters, and the Roc Solid Foundation, among other organizations.

In January, the CT3 Foundation hosted a “Driving For Hope” charity event at Topgolf El Segundo for their first in-person event in Southern California.

All 30 nominees across will be recognized in their home ballparks beginning on Friday, September 15, which is recognized as Roberto Clemente Day. However, due to the Dodgers being on the road at that time, they plan to recognize Taylor at Dodger Stadium on September 21, prior to first pitch against the San Francisco Giants.

How to vote for Chris Taylor for Roberto Clemente Award

Fans can vote for the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award through Sunday, October 1. The winner from fan voting will count as one vote among those cast by a select panel.

A league-wide winner of the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award will be selected by a blue ribbon panel that includes MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, representatives from Capital One, MLB-affiliated networks (MLB Network, FOX Sports, ESPN and TBS), MLB.com, and Roberto’s children, Enrique, Luis and Roberto Clemente Jr.
