Brandon Gomes: Dodgers ‘Looking Into’ Reasons For Injuries

The Los Angeles Dodgers are well on track to earning a 12th consecutive playoff berth, but it hasn’t come without some adversity along the way.

The Dodgers have endured more injuries than any team in baseball, with Mookie Betts, Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, Max Muncy and Yoshinobu Yamamoto among the players to miss a significant amount of time this season.

Other teams have been bit by the injury bug as well, with the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees among the teams losing several key players for a good chunk of the year.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes believes the rash of injuries the team has faced is not exclusive, but is an area they are diving into while recognizing it’s an issue across the league, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:

“We’re looking into it and trying to figure out: Is there an acute thing? Is there an over-arching issue to get at?” Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said this week about the glut of impactful players on the shelf. “Right now, I wish I had more answers but we continue to dig. We’re seeing it across the industry. We feel it more acutely when it happens to us. But I don’t think this is all that unique.”

Despite often playing shorthanded, the Dodgers have the best record in MLB as of Aug. 23. It’s been a surprise the Dodgers have been able to find themselves in that position, but it speaks to the talent on the roster.

The club has gotten healthier in recent weeks, but it is still waiting for the returns of Tyler Glasnow, Brusdar Graterol and Yamamoto, among others.

Dave Roberts: ‘Remarkable’ for Dodgers to have best record

Manager Dave Roberts recently praised the Dodgers for being able to tread water amid their growing list of injuries.

The Dodgers are currently four games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the division, and their 76-52 record places them a game ahead of the New York Yankees for the best record.
