Blake Treinen Disappointed By ‘Pretty Low Point’ After Yoshinobu Yamamoto Nearly Throws No-Hitter

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was one out away from throwing the first no-hitter of his career when he surrendered a home run to Jackson Holliday.

That marked the end of the road for Yamamoto at a career-high 112 pitches. The Los Angeles Dodgers held a 3-1 lead over the Baltimore Orioles and needed just one out to snap their four-game losing streak.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called on Blake Treinen for his second appearance in as many nights. Treinen immediately gave up a double, hit a batter and then issued a walk that loaded the bases. Treinen continued to struggle with throwing strikes and walked a second batter to bring in a run.

Tanner Scott then took over, also pitching in a back-to-back, and promptly gave up a walk-off hit for the second consecutive game.

After the Dodgers’ inexplicable walk-off loss, Treinen shared disappointment in his performance and Yamamoto’s brilliant performance being wasted, via SportsNet LA:

“There’s really no words. You’re paid to be a profession and at least throw strikes. I didn’t do that, and it cost one of the better outings I’ve ever seen in my career with Yama. He deserves better than that, offense deserves better than that. Just really sucks to be on that end of it. I put Tanner in a tough position where he’s key holed to have to throw strikes and great pitches. Big league hitters are going to find a way to move runners. It’s a pretty low point for me, coming off the heels of a tough stretch right here. I’ve got to be better.”

The stunning result extended the Dodgers’ losing streak to five games and has them facing the prospect of being swept in both series of their road trip. Moreover, the Dodgers are now 6-13 in their last 19 games decided by one run.

Since July 28, the Dodgers are just 6-14 against sub-.500 teams.

Blake Treinen’s season

Treinen has appeared in just 23 games this season due to missing more than three months because of right forearm tightness. He struggled upon coming off the 60-day injured list in late July but had settled into a better rhythm of late.

Overall this season, Treinen has a 4.26 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. He was tabbed with the loss on Saturday and Scott received his ninth blown save.
