Blake Snell Rumors: Dodgers No Longer Showing Interest

The Los Angeles Dodgers accomplished their goal of acquiring a frontline starting pitcher by trading for Tyler Glasnow, but they still need to add at least one other arm to the rotation.

The team is considered co-favorites with the New York Yankees to sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who could potentially make his decision before Christmas. The right-hander figures to sign a contract in the range of $300 million and would give the Dodgers another ace if he chooses them.

Blake Snell is the only other elite starting pitcher available in free agency, though his market has not been as active as Yamamoto’s. At the start of the offseason, a report suggested L.A. was among the teams interested in signing him.

However, Jon Heyman of the New York Post said the Dodgers are no longer pursuing Snell:

The Dodgers are showing interest in seemingly every pitcher but Snell.

With the Dodgers seemingly out of the picture for Snell, the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are the perceived favorites to sign him.

Snell went 14-9 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over a career-high 32 starts this past season. He led all qualified National League starting pitchers in ERA, ERA+ (182) and hits per nine innings (5.75) en route to winning the Cy Young Award.

Snell owns a 13-2 record and 2.59 ERA in his career against the Dodgers, which would have added incentive to sign him. Though, it appears the club is more focused on Yamamoto, who recently visited Dodger Stadium but has continued to take meetings with other teams.

The Dodgers have also been linked to Lucas Giolito and reportedly attempted to sign Aaron Nola before he went back to the Phillies. L.A. showed interest in Corbin Burnes and Dylan Cease as well, but after their trade for Glasnow, will likely turn to free agency for another starter.

Dodgers signing Tyler Glasnow to contract extension

The Dodgers finalized their trade for Glasnow over the weekend and signed him to a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension. That includes the $25 million salary he will earn during the 2024 season, with $10 million of that converted to a signing bonus.
