Scott Rolen was the only player elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) for the 2023 class, earning 77.9% of the votes in his sixth year of eligibility.

Todd Helton (72.2%) and Billy Wagner (68.1%) were among the 28 candidates who fell just short of the required 75% threshold to receive election. Among others who did not get in include Carlos Beltrán, Alex Rodriguez, Omar Vizquel, Andy Pettitte, Mark Buehrle, Francisco Rodriguez and Torii Hunter.

In terms of players on the ballot with ties to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Andruw Jones came the closest to getting into the Hall of Fame with 58.1% of the votes. That marked a 16.7% jump from the previous year.

Gary Sheffield saw a moderate increase as well, going from 40.6% to 55% in his second-to-last year of eligibility. Manny Ramirez (28.9% to 33.2%), Bobby Abreu (8.6% to 15.4%) and Jimmy Rollins (9.4% to 12.9%) also got more support and will be listed on the 2024 Hall of Fame ballot.

Meanwhile, Jeff Kent received only 46.5% of the votes in his final year of eligibility. Kent’s next opportunity for enshrinement at Cooperstown will come in December 2025 via the Contemporary Baseball Era Players Committee ballot.

Andre Ethier and Jayson Werth did not earn a single vote and will be removed from future ballots.

Bronson Arroyo, who was traded to the Dodgers but never pitched in a game for them, additionally failed to garner at least 5% of the votes.

2023 Baseball Hall of Fame Weekend

The 2023 Induction Ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 23, on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. In addition to Rolen, Contemporary Baseball Era committee electee Fred McGriff will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of the 2023 class.

As part of Hall of Fame Weekend from July 21-24, John Lowe and Pat Hughes will be honored with the BBWAA Career Excellence Award and the Ford C. Frick Award, respectively.
