2020 MLB Postseason Bubble: Format & Stadium Details

Major League Baseball officially announced plans for the 2020 postseason, which will be played in bubbles after the Wild Card Series round. The playoffs begin Tuesday, Sept. 29.

As expected, higher-seeded teams will host the best-of-three Wild Card Series in their respective home ballparks. National League teams that advance will play the remainder of the postseason in Texas (Arlington and Houston) and American League clubs will head to California (Los Angeles and San Diego).

Dodger Stadium, Globe Life Field, Minute Maid Park and Petco Park were selected for sites of postseason games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking at a scenario of playing a maximum of three playoff games at Dodger Stadium this year. As the current No. 1 seed in the NL, the Dodgers would face the second Wild Card team (No. 8 overall in NL standings).

At worst, the Dodgers would slip to No. 4 in the NL and host the fifth-seeded club.

Another wrinkle with the 2020 MLB postseason is the Wild Card Series, Division Series and Championship Series do not feature any off days. The World Series, which will be played at Globe Life Field, features off days after Games 2 and 6.

Wild Card Series games will be carried by ESPN and TBS, all ALDS games will exclusively air on TBS, while the NLDS will be broadcast by FS1 and/or MLB Network. TBS has exclusive rights to the ALCS as well, and the NLCS will air on Fox and/or FS1. The entire World Series will be broadcast by Fox.

All postgame games broadcast on Fox, TBS and MLB Network will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a pay-TV provider. ESPN Radio will provide live national coverage of all 2020 MLB postseason games.

Dodgers embracing potential World Series in Arlington

MLB selecting Globe Life Field for a neutral site World Series this year wasn’t all that surprising considering the Texas Rangers’ home ballpark just opened this season. However, thus far it has played more favorably to pitchers, and MLB’s interest in high-offense showings is well documented.

The Dodgers did buck the trend during their visit to Globe Life Field, and manager Dave Roberts said he would welcome the opportunity to play for a World Series there or at any stadium for that matter, regardless of park factors.
