Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell announced Wade Miley will start Game 5 of the National League Championship Series on short rest against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Miley pitched Game 2 of the series and was terrific, giving up just two hits while striking out three in 5.2 shutout innings. He had a span of 16 straight batters retired after giving up a single to Justin Turner in the first inning.

His streak was snapped by Chris Taylor’s base hit in the sixth, which led to Miley being removed from the game. He also got the job done at the plate in that game, going 2-for-2 with a run scored, although the Dodgers wound up rallying against the Brewers bullpen to earn a 4-3 victory.

Los Angeles has not been able to figure out the crafty southpaw all season as in three starts between the playoffs and regular season, Miley has tossed 18.2 innings without allowing an earned run.

Overall in 16 regular-season starts this season, Miley went 5-2 with a 2.57 ERA, 3.59 FIP and 1.22 WHIP while striking out 50 and walking 27 in 80.2 innings. He has been really good in the postseason so far, tossing 10.1 innings of shutout ball through his first two starts.

Following their win Monday night, Counsell named Gio Gonzalez the Brewers’ starter in Game 4. He was opposed by Rich Hill, setting up back-to-back games in which both teams are starting a lefty.

As expected, Clayton Kershaw is slated to pitch Game 5 on Wednesday.
