Just one week after the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Jake Jewell off waivers from the Chicago Cubs, the right-handed relief pitcher has changed organizations once again.

Earlier this week Jewell was claimed by the San Francisco Giants and they optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento. Jewell is not eligible to be on the Giants’ postseason roster as he was acquired after the Sept. 1 deadline.

The right-hander has an arsenal that features a fastball that reaches the mid-90s to go along with a sinker, slider and changeup.

Jewell went 0-2 with a 9.90 ERA in 10 games for the Cubs this season and in 23 games for Triple-A Iowa, he posted a 2.78 ERA with four saves.

With the Dodgers organization, he only threw 2.1 innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City and he struck out five hitters while only walking one.

The right-hander has spent parts of three years in the Majors with the L.A. Angels (2018-2019) and Cubs, going a combined 0-3 with a 7.75 ERA over 31 games. Jewell appeared in a career-high 18 games for the Angels in 2019, pitching to a 6.84 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.

In his career, he has pitched to a 7.75 ERA and 7.32 FIP across 38.1 innings while posting a strikeout percentage of 19.3% and a walk percentage of 8%.

The 28-year-old was selected by the Angels in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

Dodgers roster churn

The Dodgers selected the contract of Steven Souza Jr. and optioned Zach McKinstry to Oklahoma City.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Souza, the team transferred Garrett Cleavinger to the 60-day injured list, which ended his season. He had been on the 10-day IL since Aug. 8 with a right oblique strain.

Souza is back up with the Dodgers for a second time. He first was added to the active roster in the middle of June, and appeared in 13 games.

The veteran outfielder was designated for assignment when the Dodgers called up Nate Jones in July, but wound up clearing waivers and re-signing to remain in the organization.
